Document attestation is a mandatory step for overseas employment. Without proper attestation, your documents will not be accepted by Gulf embassies, employers or immigration authorities.

1. What Is Document Attestation?

Attestation is the official verification of a document's authenticity by the relevant government authority. For overseas employment from Pakistan, you typically need:

  • MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) attestation
  • Destination country embassy attestation
  • HEC (Higher Education Commission) for degree documents

2. Which Documents Need Attestation?

3. MOFA Attestation Process

Step 1: Prepare documents

  • Original document + 2 copies
  • CNIC copy

  • Lahore: Regional passport office
  • Karachi: MOFA regional office

Step 3: Pay fees

  • PKR 700–1,500 per document
  • Payment at designated bank

Step 4: Collect attested documents

  • Same day or next working day

4. Embassy Attestation Process

After MOFA attestation, get the destination country embassy attestation:

Saudi Arabia:

  • Saudi Embassy, Islamabad
  • Saudi Consulate, Karachi
  • Fee: PKR 2,000–4,000 per document

UAE:

  • UAE Embassy, Islamabad
  • Fee: PKR 1,500–3,000 per document

Qatar:

  • Qatar Embassy, Islamabad
  • Fee: PKR 1,500–3,000 per document

5. HEC Attestation (for degrees)

Required for educational documents (degrees, diplomas):

Step 1: Online verification

  • Portal: hec.gov.pk
  • Create account and submit documents

Step 2: Physical verification

  • Visit HEC regional center
  • Bring original documents

Step 3: Fee

  • PKR 1,000–2,000 per document

6. Tips & Warnings

  • ✅ Start attestation early — it can take 2–4 weeks
  • ✅ Carry original documents always
  • ✅ Keep multiple copies of everything
  • ❌ Don't use agents who promise "quick attestation" — they may be forging stamps
  • ❌ Don't submit photocopies for attestation — originals only
