Remittance & Money Transfer Guide for Overseas Pakistani Workers 2026

Sending money home safely and cheaply is one of the most important things for overseas Pakistani workers. This guide covers the best channels, fees, exchange rates and State Bank regulations.

1. Official Channels (State Bank Approved)

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) approves these remittance channels:

  • Banks — HBL, UBL, MCB, Allied, Bank Alfalah
  • Money Transfer Operators — Western Union, MoneyGram, Ria
  • Digital Platforms — SadaPay, NayaPay, NBP Asaan Remittance
  • Roshan Digital Account (RDA) — for overseas Pakistanis with PKR accounts

2. Fee Comparison

3. Exchange Rates (2026)

As of July 2026:

  • 1 AED ≈ PKR 77–79
  • 1 SAR ≈ PKR 75–77
  • 1 QAR ≈ PKR 77–80
  • 1 KWD ≈ PKR 900–950
  • 1 BHD ≈ PKR 750–790

Rates change daily — check before sending. The interbank rate is always better than retail.

4. Roshan Digital Account (RDA)

Best option for overseas Pakistanis:

  • Open a PKR account from abroad
  • Free transfers to any Pakistani bank
  • Best exchange rates (interbank)
  • Tax benefits on investment
  • Can invest in Naya Pakistan Certificates (7–10% returns)
  • Register at sbp.org.pk/roshan-digital-account

5. State Bank Rules

  • Daily limit: PKR 2,000,000 for personal remittances
  • Tax: 0% tax on personal remittances through banking channels
  • Documentation: CNIC required for receiver
  • Anti-money laundering: large transfers may require source declaration

6. Tips for Workers

  • ✅ Always use banking channels — never hawala/informal
  • ✅ Compare rates before sending — small differences add up
  • ✅ Send to a bank account rather than cash pickup for better rates
  • ✅ Keep transfer receipts for tax purposes
  • ✅ Ask your family to compare rates at their local bank

7. Tips for Agencies

If your agency manages worker finances:

  • Educate workers on official channels
  • Provide RDA registration assistance
  • Display current exchange rates in your office
  • Partner with a bank for group remittance accounts
